You are likely to find the following publications especially helpful as you pursue a bachelor's degree from UCSB. All are available for purchase at the UCen bookstore, and some are available by other means as noted.

Explorations Newsletter

Explorations is a web-based newsletter for students who are searching for the right major.

Honors Newsletter Honors Newsletter is a web-based newsletter for honors students striving to make the most of their time at UCSB.
UCSB General Catalog

The General Catalog is published annually. This Publication provides:

  • a complete listing of all campus regulations
  • descriptions of many opportunities
  • descriptions of academic departments and the courses they offer
  • the only complete source of information about course prerequisites.

We encourage you to purchase a copy for the Catalog Year you enter UCSB.


Letters and Science Academic Resources

The Letters and Science Academic Requirements brochure (LASAR for short) is published annually. You will be given a copy if you attend Summer Orientation, or you can purchase one at the UCSB Bookstore. LASAR describes:

  • all of your degree (graduation) requirements except for those in your major and minor
  • important enrollment information

UCSB Schedule of Classes


The Schedule of Classes is published quarterly. This publication tells you about:

  • which courses are offered for the particular quarter
  • time and location of each course
  • deadlines for the quarter
  • fees, registration and related procedures
  • applicability of scheduled courses to General Education Program and university requirements
UCSB Kiosk

The Kiosk is a biannual publication of Orientation Programs. This publication is filled with:

  • hints about fitting in and graduating
  • Isla Vista and the area surrounding UCSB.

If you did not go to orientation, you can purchase a copy or look for it on the web at www.kiosk.ucsb.edu.
